HOPEWELL - This page contains several paintings in the Hopewell Series. For a professional critic of these paintings, see the article, “Paintings of Martin Timko”, by Jude Schwendenwien.
Most of my paintings are inspired by the geology and history of the Ohio Valley where I was born. Rocks, minerals, shells, trees, and indigenous folklore are the roots of my art. I have always been more interested in what lies beneath the surface – the layers and strata – the push and pull of nature.
All the paintings of this series are large (usually 58” or 72” squares, and the tall vertical ones, 52” x 88”). They are all stretched canvas, acrylic paints.
